Tarrant's Cafe

I was expecting to like this place, but instead I found home. It was love and joyous ambiance. Usually, something always goes wrong for me. I had not one bad thing to say. Greeted upon entry, did not have yo ask one time for a refill (automatically done each time any waiter passed not just mine), food came out hot and all together, and respectful/smooth toned waiters. Menu unlike any other boring retail restaurant, it was special and luxurious.

Loved the atmosphere. Service was excellent and the Food...? AMAZING!! Definitely planning more visits.

Spur of the moment decision to stop here was the best decision! Originally wanted to eat at a different restaurant just down the road, but the wait was 45 minutes.. So we took a stroll down to Tarrant's to try it out. Let me tell you so happy we did, the food was delicious and our waitress was very friendly and on top of it. I will be back next time we're in RVA! By the way do yourself a favor and get the She Crab soup, it is phenomenal... my Greek Pita was delicious too!

Fabulous service and wonderful food. Lunch menu was superb and not too pricey. Our server was super and gave great recommendations. We will definitely be back. Tarrant's Cafe deserves 6 stars!

We had a delicious meal yesterday. We started with the crab and shrimp dip which was excellent with a great balance of seafood to cheese. My wife had the seafood stuffed pasta and I had the ribeye special, both of which were properly prepared and nicely presented. The service was outstanding with little to no wait. Recommend a trip!

Found this place on Open Table app to set reservations. Always drove past it but never went inside. Its a great atmosphere, more of a bar in my opinion then a date night type of spot but the food was great. It came in a timely fashion and the waitress was great. My only issue's is the place was smaller then expected. It was packed when we got there and had no space to actually stand to wait so we kept having to move out of the way every time the door opened. They seated us right in front of the bar. Unfortunately it was 40 degrees outside so I had to keep my jacket on the whole time due to the door opening every 2 minutes followed by cold air. That is literally the only reason I didn't give it five stars.

We love Tarrant's. Went there for an anniversary dinner and they gave us blackberry cobbler for our dessert and I was shocked at how huge the dish was! So good!

Comfortable pub with good comfort food on the menu. The pizza is really good too. We were glad they were open late on Sunday for dinner and the service was friendly and attentive.

Delicious Food and Atmosphere! Great service that was able to accommodate my family without reservations on a Sunday. Even the kiddos under 5 wanted more food and they loved the homemade rolls that are provided as a courtesy.

Beautiful day to share a soecial memory. Greeted with a smile, clean and organized atmosphere. Waitress was so polite and patient. Food is always amazing. Ted always made me a "Pot pie" , this was close to his heart for me. I miss him and my visit was Excellent.

Becca is the best server I have ever had. My family went out for brunch, and had the best time. Food was great, but Becca is the reason we will be back.

It was my first time eating here. I had heard lots about the place from social media and people that I know. I was expecting a longer wait at 12:30 p.m. on a Sunday, but 20 minutes was it for a party of 2. Great atmosphere and food. The staff was courteous and attentive. The food was of quality and tasty. A repeat and a must, especially if you like to mix great food and the charm of the architecture and decor of an old building.

Some of the best chicken and waffles in the city. But it's syrup that really makes it shine. Other food was good too. Shame they only offer brunch on the weekends. A little overpriced unless you hit up the bar for happy hour where the pricing is quite decent.

good service. wide variety of choices for different palates. the drinks are good, I got an old-fashioned type drink last time. kid friendly. support your locally owned restaurants folks or all we will have is terrible corporate chains to go to with bland food

Amazing food and great staff. The bar serves amazing and unique cocktails and the food was excellent. I had the pizza and they did it right, but it paled in comparison with the bread pudding. I definitely enjoyed my meal and felt like a regular as soon as I walked in! I highly recommend them.

Came here this previous Saturday, it was a bit busy, but we were seated in great time. I'm new to the Yelp reviewing, but this place was nice! The ambience, the service, the atmosphere! The filling inside gave off a really seafood-heavy aroma and the creamy sauce matched the crepe. Although the crepe was a little too thick in terms of texture, I still enjoyed the overall dish.

First off, shout out to Abdel for being a very bright and upbeat server. The staff in general was great in keeping the waters filled and attending to our needs. I believe the owner came by to check on how everything was doing, which is always a good thing for any restaurant,

Great ambiance and food was tasty. Dinner rush service was a little slow, but it's the dinner rush, what are you going to do? Wait staff was very friendly and attentive.

Another great MSG free find! It's not advertised as a health food restaurant but we ate here four days in a row, trying different dishes each time and nothing gave me a reaction! Loved loved loved the crab cakes and the flourless chocolate cake. Had a delicious and spooky Halloween cocktail. The ambience reminds me of old restaurants in New Orleans, the staff friendly and attentive and the menu is broad and built with quality ingredients. Try their Manhattan!

Went for restaurant week and super glad we did. The chicken and waffles were cooked perfectly and the green beans very well seasoned. But the best part was the chili calimari. Based on that alone it was one of my favorite restaurant experiences. If that becomes a regular menu item I'd eat it every visit. Also our server, Megan, was awesome and super nice.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. From the customer service, to the taste of the food, everything was superb. Gina, the manager, is dedicated to her job and ensures that her customers are pleased. There is a cook there, Derrell, who is very passionate about the art of cooking, and care for people, and this shows in how he prepares his meals and interacts with patrons. He definitely deserves the title of Chef. Lucy, one of the servers, is so sweet. I enjoy dining here because the staff is friendly, personable, and there is a familial vibe, and the food is delicious. I highly recommend dining here.

I fell that this was more like a 2.5 star review, but that is not an option and our server was great, so I'll leave it at 3. Synopsis: Expansive menu, average food. French fries were literally the store bought frozen kind but sold by the waitress as "really great." Drinks are not made by true mixologists. Mine was too sweet. This is a Richmond staple, but I'm surprised by the positive reviews given my experience and sampling of several dishes (refrigerated, pre-prepared salad, etc) Richmond has amazing food, but Olive Garden would have delivered a better meal

Had the Asian Chicken Salad, which was very fresh and tasty. Great decor, and the staff were all very friendly and attentive.

I went today with my husband. We really liked it. It started Rocky but the food made up for everything. The Chicken and waffles are the best . I also loved The fruit plate . I would recommend this place if you want a variety of dishes

Lovely, quaint atmosphere! Delicious garlic bread was brought to our table after we ordered. Husband really enjoyed the vegetarian grilled cheese sandwich, complete with roasted vegetables. I loved the half size Greek salad with blackened chicken Good service!

Eclectic venue and interesting menu, but flavors fall short of potential. The fried oysters were plump and succulent, but lacked flavor. Same for the upside down apple walnut pie. Almost no walnuts at all, factory crust, and no burst of pizzaz at all. Waitress was friendly and professional.

On our way to North Carolina my wife and I stopped in Richmond Virginia.We searched for a place to eat on the 4th of July.... And Tarrant's was it... Located on broad street is this jewel of a restaurant. It is difficult to say from outside what this place holds within but once you step in everything is wonderful and beyond imagination i.e decor, food and staff. It seems like original windows and door have been preserved and made part or the decor. Staff is super nice, courteous and very knowledgeable. The food options are great for both vegetarian and meat lovers alike and so are libations. I would definitely recommend this place. I have been here twice already in a month.

Good food, quiet settingFirst rate. I was particularly impressed with the service we received from Taylor. I ordered the Ellie’s brown ale when Taylor discovered that the tap had run dry, she came back to inform me I would have to make another selection. When she did this she brought a sampler of Ale Works Brown so that could taste if that was expectable . That is going above and beyond. Great place for the Discerning beer drinker.

It was my first visit. I think I need to visit again and try another meal because I really wasn't impressed this time around. The service was great and the drinks were good. I just didn't liked what I ordered but I did like my sister's meal!

Very warm and cozy restaurant with friendly staff and an enormous menu. The staff were very knowledgeable of the menu and helpful in making suggestions. The blackened fish was cooked perfectly, as was the rissoto, which had a great flavor. The she crab soup had a great flavor and was a large portion for a starter. Be sure to save room for the apple walnut upside down cake with whip cream and ice cream, it was fantastic.

Superb cuisine!!! I recommend the crab cakes, the crab soup. I just simply recommend this restaurant. High quality food and preparation. Compliments to the chef!!!!

We went here since it was close to our AirBnB and we had just flown, were hungry, arrived, 20 minutes before closing, and they were already shutting down. They were gracious about making a meal for us and chatted like we were old friends. Very serviceable lasagna, Kathy had the fish tacos and hummus platter, very tasty. A bit more red onion than I normally eat, but that seems to be a Richmond VA thing :)

Lunch on a Friday afternoon so YMMV. Wasn’t packed by any stretch when we got in, promptly seated, but the service was a bit lacking overall. Menu and ordering process was simple and straight forward. Food took longer than expected given the amount of people at the restaurant. Chicken parm was good, fries were ok - not hot, but warm. Coworkers seemed to like their entrees. Would consider coming again but if the experience is similar to this one then it’s a wrap for this spot.

Really interesting place. Good old atmosphere. Good selection of well prepared food. We actually came two evenings in a row!

This restaurant is the one I like best. I eat in plenty of restaurants but to this restaurant I constantly return again and again. The crew is very attentive and the cuisine they place on your table is so tasty. I am always happy to have a decent meal here. I highly recommend this place.

Very surprised by this place. It's in an old pharmacy. Had one if the best fruit and green salads with grilled chicken I had ever eaten. Prices were reasonable, and they deliver to hotels in the area and the university. They seated me at the bar as I dined alone, and that was my only complaint. Bartender took good care of me, but the servers were continually moving behind and around me and the bar is located at the front in a narrow area where people wait to be seated and I kept getting bumped into. Get a table and you'll be fine.

The fish tacos are good. I love the rice and beans and the pear and goat cheese salad is amazing. I had it with the creamy balsamic. I definitely will return.

This was my first time trying Turrant's Cafe and was very pleasantly surprised. I am on a plant based diet and the food was very good. I would visit again.

The food was pretty good but the bloody Mary was crappy. Did not come garnished basically tomato juice with pepper at the bottom and vodka at the top in a small glass. The risotto is pre-made so I could not order it without meat.

Excellent food and service. Best fillet mignon I ever had. Other plates were ok.

This little gem is great!!! Small place in downtown Richmond that is cute, quaint and delicious. The service was wonderful and very friendly. We had their famous garlic bread, calamari, fish and chips, BLT wrap and philly cheese steak. Everything was wonderful. Very fresh and just an overall good flavor. For dessert we had the creme burle and the walnut cake. It was all delicious. I would recommend and I will definitely return.
